Sports Massage

Sports remedial massage involves massage techniques with related soft tissue techniques and post-treatment advice to manage, manipulate and rehabilitate the various soft tissues of the body.

This type of massage is targeted at a particular area of the body, and doesn’t necessarily involve hard pressure, especially if the person is recovering from an injury. It can be applied to alleviate a variety of aches and pains, whether they arise in a sporting or recreational context or simply from the stresses of modern life. This treatment also aims to help release muscle holding patterns and to stretch and lengthen tissue thereby correcting poor postural patterns.

Please bring or wear gym shorts or leggings and a bra top to your appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be a sportsperson to have a sports massage?
Not at all. While it's popular with athletes, sports massage is equally effective for everyday aches, pains and postural issues that come from desk work, manual labour or the stresses of modern life.

Is it always deep and painful?
No. Despite its name, sports massage doesn't always involve hard pressure. The treatment is tailored to your needs and condition, particularly if you're recovering from an injury.

What areas of the body can be treated?
Sports massage is targeted, meaning it focuses on specific problem areas rather than a full body treatment. This makes it ideal for recurring niggles, tight muscles or injury rehabilitation.

What should I wear?
Please wear or bring gym shorts/leggings and a bra top so the therapist can access the relevant areas easily.

What are the benefits?
Sports massage can help with pain reduction, breaking down scar tissue, improving tissue elasticity, increasing circulation and nutrient flow to muscles, and promoting faster recovery.

Will I be sore afterwards?
Some mild tenderness is normal, especially after deeper work. Your therapist will give you post-treatment advice to help you get the most from your session.
